Welcome to Offering!
My name is Angela Maffia, MS, L.Ac. I am a licensed acupuncturist and Reiki practitioner servicing communities in the Hudson Valley.I am deeply passionate about creating a safe, connected,judgement-free space for you to begin or continue yourhealing journey. My treatments are gentle yet powerful, always placing the patient at the center of the experience with utmost care and compassion.

About me: Perhaps you'd like to know where my journey with acupuncture began! I've been a dancer all my life, and as an adult I had the pleasure of pursuing a wonderful professional dance career in New York City. I had the privilege of working with incredibly talented choreographers for well over a decade, as well as honing my own skills in dance making, and teaching! In my career I performed throughout New York City, Brooklyn, upstate New York in Woodstock, Rhinebeck, and Wappinngers Falls, as well as abroad in Prague and Cesky-Krumlov, in the
Czech Republic. I showed my own choreography in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and
various venues in upstate NY as well. During my professional dance career, I worked many jobs to stay financially afloat (freelance dance, while inspiring and exciting, doesn't pay the bills!) including working as a medical assistant and front desk associate at a pediatrician's office, a dance teacher for children and adults, and a Pilates instructor.
As you might be able to imagine, my days were long, hectic, and extremely
physically and emotionally taxing. I found acupuncture through my sister who was
receiving treatments and suggested I try it. At the time, my PTSD and anxiety was wreaking havoc on my nervous system. It was so severe at times I'd have debilitating panic attacks that left me shaking for hours afterwards. It affected
every area of my life negatively. I gave acupuncture a shot, figuring I had nothing to lose.
And then I was hooked.
I saw and felt seemingly miraculous changes in my mind and body with continued treatment. It quickly became an integral part of my self-care. Eventually, I became
curious as to how this medicine worked, and I'd ask my acupuncturist little
questions every time I saw her. With each answer, I grew more and more curious, and would research her answers on my own later on. The more I learned, the more
I fell in love with the medicine.
Acupuncture, in many ways, saved my life. It was a light in pitch darkness, a
foothold on a steep cliff; it made me feel empowered. Acupuncture offered me
answers where there were none before, it offered me hope, it offered me stable
ground where I once felt like I was in constant quicksand. And now I have the pleasure of returning this gift; I have the pleasure of creating space for you to heal
with this medicine-this is my Offering.
How I work:
At your first appointment, I will take a detailed, comprehensive health history. I will ask questions related to your current concern, as well as questions relating to the circumstances that may have led to where you are in your current healing journey.
I love hearing your story, and youwill have ample time to tell it during your appointment!
I will then take your pulses, which correspond to different organ systems in Chinese Medicine and serve a diagnostic purpose. Finally, once a diagnosis is reached, you will receive your acupuncture treatment, along with an additional modality such as cupping, moxibustion, Tui Na massage, or Reiki, depending upon your individual needs.

What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the practice of inserting extremely thin needles into specific points on the body to elicit a therapeutic result. From musculoskeletal pain to emotional or energetic concerns, acupuncture is a highly effective treatment modality for a wide variety of issues. The experience is usually painless and very relaxing, creating a state of tranquility for the patient. Results are cumulative, so, acupuncture works best when done consistently, however, results can often be felt after the first appointment!
- Tips for your visit!
- Wear loose fitting comfortable clothes
- Have something to eat and drink before your appointment
- Expect to answer questions about your lifestyle, such as sleep, diet, and digestion
- Get up slowly after your treatment is over, and take it easy for the rest of the day
Modalities
Acupuncture
Extremely fine needles inserted into specific points on the body to elicit a therapeutic result.
Moxibustion
Mugwort (an herb) burned near the skin over certain points to add Qi and aid healing. Great for patients who need an energy boost!
Cupping/Gua Sha
Both cupping and Gua Sha are modalities that move stuck Qi and blood. They also ease muscle tension, aid in speeding virus recovery, and pull toxicity up to the surface-level where it can be processed out of the body.
Reiki and Tui Na massage
Reiki is an energy healing modality that utilizes universal energy to realign the energy field of the patient. I act as a conduit for this energy, and either hover or gently touch areas of the body as i channel this energy to the patient. Tui Na is a Chinese medical massage that alleviates stiff muscles. Both modalities are very relaxing!
